Ariana Grande will make a surprise appearance Friday night at Coachella. Grande is set to release “No Tears Left to Cry,” in a few hours, which will be her first single since 2016’s Dangerous Woman, and since the bombing at her concert last May in Manchester, UK that left 22 dead.
It’s unclear when Grande will perform. Past collaborator The Weeknd headlines the festival on Friday night, so it’s possible she blesses Abel’s fans by crashing that performance. Variety also notes that Coachella’s second weekend includes a slot on Friday between 11:45 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. reserved for a “surprise guest.” In the months since the Manchester tragedy, Grande has hosted a benefit concert in Manchester for the bombing’s victims, performed at a benefit concert in Charlottesville organized in response to the city’s deadly white supremacist rally, and sang at the pro-gun control “March For Our Lives” rally in Washington, D.C. in March. Beyoncé’s performance at Coachella last weekend broke YouTube streaming records (over 43 million viewers worldwide).
Bey's highly anticipated second performance of the festival will not be officially streamed, as Billboard reports. During her first set, Beyoncé reunited Destiny’s Child, had a danceoff with her sister Solange, and brought Jay-Z out. Beyoncé will be performing again this Saturday night in Indio.
Marilyn Manson announced on Instagram that he will be making a guest appearance at Coachella this coming weekend. The shock-rock veteran will be joining Japanese metal superstars X Japan during their second set of the festival. “I am happy to join my great friend @yoshikiofficial and XJapan at Coachella on Saturday the 21st for a special performance,” Manson wrote.
X Japan played last weekend at the Indio festival, performing a set featuring guest spots from Wes Borland from Limp Bizkit, Richard Fortus from Guns N’ Roses, and Miya from X Japan’s visual kei contemporaries MUCC. Manson is gearing up for a tour with Rob Zombie this summer, and released a video for his Heaven Upside Down single “Tattooed in Reverse” last month, which featured an appearance from Courtney Love. Check out Manson’s post below, and check out our 2016 feature on X Japan, “We Are X and So Can You,” here.

Janelle Monae just released the introspective song "I Like That" Monday morning (Apr. 16). The mellow tune discusses the ways in which Monae didn't quite fit in growing up, and how she now celebrates the idiosyncrasies that set her apart.
"A little crazy, little sexy, little cool/ Little rough around the edges, but I keep it smooth/ I’m always left of center and that’s right where I belong/ I’m the random minor note you hear in major songs," Monae cleverly rhymes over a slinky beat and gospel-infused background vocals. Although Monae recalls being deemed "weird" in school for sporting thrift store Polos and severing her permed hair, she ultimately claims she wouldn't have wanted anything different for herself: "I always knew I was the shit." "I Like That" is the fourth single from Monae's upcoming third studio album, Dirty Computer, scheduled to drop Apr. 27. The latest track follows defiant banger "Django Jane," the groovy love song "Make Me Feel" and the daring empowerment anthem "PYNK" featuring Grimes. |
