Drake's 'Scorpion' Breaks Single-Day Streaming Records

Drake's Scorpion shattered single-day streaming records on both Apple Music and Spotify, with the rapper's new double album on pace for the most streamed week in charts history.

Scorpion easily crushed Apple Music's single-day streaming record – previously held by Drake's own More Life – with 170 million streams worldwide in its first 24 hours of release, the Associated Press reports; More Life accumulated 89.9 million streams on the service upon its release in March 2017.

On Spotify, Scorpion's tracks have chalked up over 132 million streams in its first 24 hours, and all 25 Scorpion tracks appear among the first 41 spots on Spotify's worldwide Top 200 chart; Side A opener "Non-Stop" drew 9.2 million streams alone.

Factoring in other music services and Scorpion is well on its way toward beating the record for most streams in one week, which Post Malone's Beerbongs & Bentleys recorded earlier this year when that album opened at Number One thanks in part to 431 streams.

Scorpion's A Side is dedicated to hip-hop while B Side focuses on R&B – could hit a billion streams in its first week of release, the Verge reports.

“Don’t sleep on me,” urges Sekai No Owari’s Fukase Satoshi to a lover in “Sleeping Beauty,” which the group shared via YouTube on Thursday with Korean hip-hop trio Epik High.

The R&B-ish track from Sekai, also known as End of the World, marks the first time they've collaborated with Epik High. “Sleeping Beauty” is performed entirely in English by Fukase and Tablo. The chill vibe of the song overflows with romantic lyrcism, which even incorporates a reference to The Beatles.

“The world is a wake-up call away from the end/ Till then, we'll find peace in this bed like we're Yoko and John,” says Tablo, throwing in some of Epik High’s typical commentary on the world around them.

The song was written and produced by Rock Mafia.

In a video posted to Sekai's English-language Twitter account, Tablo called "Sleeping Beauty" the "greatest collaboration in the history of music."

Tiffany Young Drops 'Over My Skin' Single

K-pop star Tiffany Young just released her new single “Over My Skin,” Thursday (June 28).

A '90s-inspired pop track with funky brass and R&B leanings, it is the singer’s first release since she moved back to her hometown of Los Angeles after living in South Korea for over a decade as a member of Girls’ Generation, one of the country’s most prominent pop acts. Overflowing with confidence as she belts about her desires and “owning what’s mine,” it is a new, empowering look for Young, and radically different from 2016’s “I Just Wanna Dance.”

After leaving her Korean music label SM Entertainment last year, Young began working with the Stateside Transparent agency, which is headed by Far East Movement and Jon Yip of The Stereotypes. For her U.S. career, the artist, born Stephanie Hwang, opted to keep the stage name she picked up in Korea -- when she signed with SM, there was another girl group with a member named Stephanie -- and add the “Young” from her Korean name “Mi-Young,” which she said is written using the Chinese character that means “forever.”

A music video for “Over My Skin” is in the works, but at the moment, the song is only available on digital music platforms. including Spotify, Apple Music and iTunes.

The video, directed by Nick Koenig, features classic horror imagery. The visual finds lead singer Billy Corgan being held captive in a bizarre asylum where he receives dosages of trauma from an IV and watches other inmates play the game Connect Four with solely black pieces. He later wanders into a mime giving birth to an imaginary baby while being watched over by heavily armed mimes.

The Pumpkins' Shiny and Oh So Bright North American tour kicks off on July 12.

Charli XCX has released a sensual new music video for her single "5 in the Morning."

Drowned in ambient club lights in an empty warehouse, Charli stomps around the premises with prowess, making the huge empty space seem small. As always, she's unapologetic about her ethic, success, and bravado, singing "I ain't even stoppin' It's 5 in the mornin', I'm so devoted," from the rafters of the warehouse.

"5 in the Morning," is the first single Charli has released since her December mixtape, Pop 2, which received nearly universal acclaim from critics, including Pitchfork's best new music. Currently, the singer is opening on Taylor Swift'sReputation Stadium Tour until late November.
