SYNC “Dirty Pop-Up” Experienc Venue: Cinematic Pictures ─6801 Hollywood Blvd, Ste 200A, Hollywood, CA 90028 Date: Saturday, April 28 – Tuesday, May 1 Hours of operation: Saturday, April 28 – noon to 8pm Sunday, April 29 – noon to 8pm Monday, April 30 – 4pm to 9pm Tuesday, May 1 – noon to 8pm Halsey is featured on "Alone" remix courtesy of Calvin Harris. The song, from Halsey's 2017 album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, was released as the record's third single in March. Harris' version, which still features English rapper Stefflon Don, adds blown-out bass and kinetic synth, cranking the track from a mid-tempo pop ballad to a full-on dance floor banger. It marks the first collaboration between the singer and beatsmith. "Alone" follows a string of singles from Harris as of late, including the Dua Lipa-aided house number "One Kiss" and reggae-tinged PARTYNEXTDOOR team-up "Nuh Ready Nuh Ready." He last released 2017's star-powered Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, featuring Frank Ocean, Ariana Grande, and Katy Perry, among others. Halsey, meanwhile, is currently on the last leg of her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom tour, which wraps September 26 following stops across Europe, Latin America, Asia, Canada, and the U.S. R. Kelly’s publicist and lawyer have severed ties with the singer. Linda Mensch, Kelly’s entertainment lawyer, confirmed to BBC news that she “no longer represented Mr Kelly or his entities.” The BBC also reported that Diane Copeland, Kelly’s assistant has quit. Additionally, Kelly’s publicist is out. In a statement to Rolling Stone, Kelly’s publicist Trevian Kutti said, “effective April 16, 2018, I no longer represent Mr. Robert Kelly.” The news comes in the midst of new allegations against the singer claiming he “knowingly and intentionally infected” a 19-year-old woman, he was “grooming” for a sex cult, with an STD. Recently, the BBC ran a documentary about the singer titled R. Kelly: Sex, Girls and Videotapes, which details years of allegations of sexual misconduct. Kelly’s team has stood by his side through various allegations over the years with Mensch, in particular, defending him against a 2017 investigative report from Buzzfeed into similar sex cult allegations. With more accusers and evidence of alleged sexual abuse coming to light, it seems likely that others affiliated with Kelly may also cut ties with the singer. A Texas charter school is apologizing after a teacher gave an assignment to an eighth grade American History class, asking students to list the positive aspects of slavery.
"When I first read it, I thought, this was b.s.," said Great Hearts Monte Vista eighth-grade student Manu Livar. Students in the class were supposed to complete an assignment on the "positive aspects" and "negative aspects" of the life of slaves, giving a "balanced view." Manu said his teacher told them to draw on information from their textbook and "stuff that we could think of the top off our head." It was a precursor to the class reading former slaves' accounts of their lives in slavery. When his mother picked Manu up, he showed her the assignment; she immediately sent a picture of it to her husband. "What the hell is this revisionist history lesson trying to achieve here?!?" said Roberto Livar, Manu's father, who posted it to Facebook on Wednesday. Since then, the superintendent and headmaster of the K-12 public charter school, where approximately 800 students attend classes, have met the family and other concerned parents, and the teacher has been placed on leave. "To be clear, there is no debate about slavery," Aaron Kindel, the superintendent of the Great Hearts academies in Texas, wrote Thursday on Facebook. "It is immoral and a crime against humanity." Kindel also said the assignment was given by only one teacher, and he apologized for its insensitive nature. Great Hearts Monte Vista schools are going a step further and removing the textbook being used, "Prentice Hall Classics: A History of the United States," until it reviews the material, Kindel said. "The worksheet in question was not created by, endorsed, or encouraged in any way by Pearson," a spokesperson for Pearson, parent company of Prentice Hall, told CNN. "We do not support this point of view and strongly condemn the implication that there was any positive aspect to slavery." Although school officials say they will sit down with the students in the class to "explain the mistake," Manu says he's getting some backlash at school. He says some at school have actually attempted to defend the assignment. Roberto Livar says that's unacceptable, wondering what if the assignment had been to weigh the positive and negatives of human trafficking. "We'd have large support across the board (against the assignment)," he said. J. Cole has released a music video for “ATM,” the first single off of his latest album KOD. The song discusses the human pursuit and obsession with money and how people will kill themselves for it. The accompanying music video, directed by Cole and Scott Lazer, is an homage to Hype Williams videos for Missy Elliott and Busta Rhymes in the ’90s. Using bright, colorful palettes and animated movements to show medicated kids chasing after a dollar, Cole in a straight-jacket bouncing against a money-coated room and Cole literally giving an arm and a leg for an expensive car. It’s an amusing way of telling an obvious story about capitalism.
Kylie Jenner and Kourtney Kardashian are days away from releasing a new makeup line together.
Among the forthcoming products releasing from the Kourt x Kylie collab is a mini eyeshadow palette trio, which comes in three different sets named by colors blue, green and pink. Some of the nominal shade names are said to be attributed to Kardashian's health nut lifestyle, like a silvery emerald called "Matcha" and "Gluten-Free," a bright mineral gold. In a set of Instagram Stories, Jenner also provides a closer behind-the-scenes and various swatches of each new item from the line, which includes accompanying pressed powder palettes and two other new lippies — French Kiss and Minnie — created by Kardashian herself. This recent relative-inspired addition to the Kylie Cosmetics brand arrives just months after Kylie released her Weather Collection line back in February, which was sparked by her Jenner's daughter and firstborn child, Stormi Webster. The Kourt x Kylie Collaboration launches April 24.
Ariana Grande has released, "No Tears Left To Cry," which dropped Friday (April 20) at midnight, seems to be a hit with fans. The track, Grande's first since a terrorist killed more than 20 of her fans at her Manchester, England concert about a year ago, starts slowly and gently before picking up speed to officially compete in the race for summer jam. "Right now, I'm in a state of mind / I wanna be in, like, all the time / Ain't got no tears left to cry / So I'm pickin' it up, pickin' it up," she sings across a composite of gentle crooning and more urgent, pitch-perfect wailing. The video, which dropped around the same time, finishes with imagery of a worker bee, the is the symbol of Manchester. In May 2017, a man detonated a bomb at the end of Grande's show in Manchester, England, killing 22 concert-goers and injuring dozens more. The attack left Grande devastated, but eventually, she put her pain into action, and even instituted a Manchester Memorial concert to raise money for the victims, survivors and their families. Carrie Underwood was fearful about one person seeing her injured mug: her 3-year-old son, Isaiah.
“He’s sweet,” Underwood, 35, told “The Bobby Bones Show” on Thursday. “For a while I was worried he would be scared of me, but now if I put makeup on, he’s like, ‘Mommy, your boo-boo’s all gone!'” Though the “Cry Pretty” singer appeared as pretty as ever in her comeback performance at the ACM Awards last weekend, she thinks the scars surrounding her mouth will always be visible when she’s not wearing “plaster” over them. And while many believed that Underwood was deliberately flying under the radar after her fall, she denies it. “I don’t think I hide. There’s always stuff to do, even if it’s not necessarily playing shows. I’m kind of a homebody, a hermit … I was lucky that when it happened, everything was kind of shutting down in the music world and we had the holidays and stuff like that, but I was at a point where I didn’t know how things were gonna end up,” she said. “I didn’t know what was gonna go on. I didn’t know what it was going to heal like.” For the first time, the “American Idol” alum elaborated on the unfortunate tumble that led to her injuries, which also included a broken right wrist. “I was taking the dogs out to go pee pee one last time, and I tripped, and there was one step,” she said. “I didn’t let go of the leashes — priorities! So that’s why the left hand is fine. I went to catch myself, and I just missed a step. If I had fallen anywhere else, I would have perfectly been fine. It was one step that messed everything up.” Avicii has died at 28, his rep confirms.
