The 2020 Eurovision Song Contest has been canceled due to coronavirus concerns.
“Over the past few weeks, we have explored many alternative options to allow the Eurovision Song Contest to go ahead,” said organizers in a statement. “However, the uncertainty created by the spread of COVID-19 throughout Europe – and the restrictions put in place by the governments of the participating broadcasters and the Dutch authorities – means the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has taken the difficult decision to not continue with the live event as planned. The health of artists, staff, fans and visitors, as well as the situation in the Netherlands, Europe and the world, is at the heart of this decision.” Organizers also rejected the idea of hosting the show remotely, with every contestant performing via satellite link: “It’s in the DNA of the Eurovision Song Contest to bring delegations, artists and fans together in one place and provide an equal platform for all artists to compete together on the same stage. We felt that under the extreme circumstances we face this year, organising the Eurovision Song Contest in another way would not be in keeping with our values and the tradition of the event.” The news of Eurovision cancellation came on the same day that Glastonbury, the UK’s biggest music festival, also announced its cancellation.

Maya Hawke has announced that her debut album, titled Blush, is due for release on June 19th, 2020. Maya, who wrote the lyrics, continued her collaboration with Grammy Award-winning songwriter Jesse Harris, who wrote the music for the album: “This album happened accidentally. Jesse and I started working together accidentally… we kept writing, kept collecting songs because it brought joy into both of our lives,” she said in a statement. “Collecting them into an album and releasing it comes from a crazy, if not pathological desire to share that joy with others. From my point of view, ‘Blush‘ is a collection of secret messages, hidden communications with the people in my life.” To coincide with the announcement, Maya has released the album’s first single, “By Myself,” and its accompanying music video. Maya will be donating a portion of the proceeds from all merch sales to The Food Bank for New York City. More information can be found here. Judge Overturns $2.8M 'Dark Horse' Copyright Verdict Against Katy Perry and Capitol Records3/17/2020 More than a half a year after a California jury ruled against Katy Perry for ripping off a Christian rapper's song, a judge finds there was nothing protectable to infringe. It took much longer than expected but seven months after the conclusion of a copyright trial that stunned the music world, a California federal judge on Tuesday delivered a win to Katy Perry, Capitol Records, Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald and others who worked on the 2013 hit "Dark Horse." In an opinion today, U.S. District Court Judge Christina Snyder finds the defendants are not liable for infringing a Christian rapper's song. As a result, Marcus Gray, known professionally as Flame, finds his $2.8 million jury verdict wiped out. Judge Snyder comes to the conclusion after reviewing the evidence presented at the July trial and finding that Gray can't satisfy the extrinsic test, which requires that a copyright plaintiff identify concrete elements based on objective criteria that the works are similar. Flame's "Joyful Noise" is analyzed, and the judge considers the elements identified by his musicologist Todd Decker. But none of these elements including pitch sequence and the temporal spacing of notes is protectable, writes the judge. After the ruling, Perry's lead attorney Christine Lepera said in a statement, "In a well reasoned and methodical decision, the court properly vacated the jury verdict, finding that Dark Horse does not infringe Joyful Noise, as a matter of law. This an important victory for music creators and the music industry, recognizing that music building blocks cannot be monopolized. The creators of Dark Horse stand vindicated." Jessie Paege is coming out and released her “Coming Out” music video, which tackles her own negative experiences with coming out. “I’ve never really opened up about my negative experiences with coming out…This song was has my whole heart attached to it. I want to make this clear, this song is for ANYONE that has to apologize for who they are,” Jessie wrote on Instagram. “The past 5 years of my life, I’ve felt like I’m a disappointment because of my colored hair, the way I dress, tattoo, mental illness, career, and sexuality,” she continued. “However, SO many of those things are how we were all brought together on my page. I think that’s absolutely beautiful. So, this song is for you. Thank you for loving me as I am and you deserve to absolutely adore who you are ❤️” Vanessa Hudgens apologized, saying her words about the pandemic were "insensitive and not at all appropriate for the situation." She also calls the backlash she received a "huge wake up call" about the importance of what she says. She claims her comments are being taken out of context and she's not taking the situation lightly ... despite what her earlier remarks implied. She adds that she's under self-quarantine herself during this "crazy time" and hopes everyone is doing the same. One thing she didn't add, however, was an apology.
Vanessa said that our current situation "sounds like a bunch of bulls**t"! She said, "Even if everybody gets it ... like, yeah ... people are gonna die, which is terrible, but like ... inevitable?" You do have to see how she said it because tone makes all the difference here, and this seems as close to tone deaf as you can get. Ahead of the backlash Vanessa seemed to have caught herself, adding ... "Maybe I shouldn't be doing this right now." Donald Glover just released a 12-song new album early this morning. The collection, which does not appear to have a title beyond “Donald Glover Presents,” features appearances by Ariana Grande, 21 Savage and SZA. The album was not on streaming services at the time of this article’s publication, but is streaming on a dedicated website — listen to it here. No information about the album — even song titles — was immediately available. The website features a four-panel illustration depicting a crowd of people in the middle of an apparent riot — some of whom appear alarmed and panicked while others are excited, a scene that recalls Glover’s provocative and subtext-heavy video for his Grammy-winning 2018 song “This Is America.” See track list below:
A week after it was first announced, the solo song from V (a.k.a. Kim Taehyung) of BTS for the Itaewon Class soundtrack is finally here. On March 13, V’s OST for the series debuted on the latest episode, Part.12, and dropped shortly after on the VLENDING YouTube channel as well as streaming platforms. Called “Sweet Night,” the song is a direct reference to the show’s DanBam pub, a location that plays an integral part in the storyline. “Sweet Night,” which was composed, written, produced and sung by V himself, is a perfect fit for the series. The low-tempo ballad dwells on conflicting feelings of lost love and hope — themes that will certainly ring a bell if you have been keeping up with the show on Netflix. Without spoiling too much, the show's official summary on Netflix reads, "In a colorful Seoul neighborhood, an ex-con and his friends fight a mighty foe to make their ambitious dreams for their street bar a reality." Prior to its release, the song was described as an acoustic indie-pop ballad. Though featuring objectively heartbreaking lyrics, the soft composition of the song is comforting, making it the perfect track not to chase the blues away, but to embrace them as part of your growth. That message fits right at home with V’s healing repertoire and the plot Itaewon Class. “On my pillow / Can’t get me tired / Sharing my fragile truth / That I still hope the door is open / Cuz the window / Opened one time with you and me / Now my forever’s falling down,” V sings in English. “I wanna ask you / If this is all just in my head / My heart is pounding tonight / I wonder / If you / Are too good to be true.” The song’s title is a direct translation of the pub’s name, whose name genesis is also explained in the series and holds a special meaning for main character Park Sae-roy (played by V’s IRL close friend Park Seo-joon). |
