I'm looking for things around me in the real world and in the metal fantasy world, so I'm making political comment and comments on the environment, as metaphorically as I can. Rapper NBA YoungBoy was arrested Saturday night in Tallahassee, Florida for an outstanding felony warrant, including kidnapping.
YoungBoy was supposed to appear at The Moon nightclub in Tallahassee, but police stopped YoungBoy's tour bus, ran the rapper's record and discovered he was a fugitive from Georgia for allegedly committing assault, weapons violations and kidnapping. The 18-year-old rapper was also arrested for a case connected to a series of shootings in Baton Rouge, LA back in 2016. He was also accused of firing a weapon during a drive-by shooting. Doug Morris, the only person to be the top executive at all three major music companies, has secured funding for a new label and will exit his post as non-executive chairman of Sony Music Entertainment at the end of March, sources tell Variety. A report in Hits says that the new company will be called 12 Tone and that former Def Jam CEO Steve Bartels, who stepped down at the end of 2017, will be joining Morris.
While some reports said the new label is part of an unspecified partnership with Apple, a source close to the situation told Variety that those rumors are untrue and that Apple has no equity or investment in Morris’ endeavor. Reps for Morris, Bartels, Sony and Apple did not immediately respond to Variety‘s requests for comment. Morris’ exit from Sony completes a long transition that began with former Columbia Records CEO Rob Stringer being announced as Morris’ successor as CEO of Sony Music Entertainment in October of 2016 and officially taking the reins last April. Akon says his orginization could have had the lights back on in Puerto Rico within 30 days after Hurricane Maria hit, but the government rejected him.
Akon told TMZ about the progress in the Puerto Rican relief effort -- as of this week 83% of its residents have power restored. Akon not impressed, because the country is 5 months into disaster relief and power should have been restored months ago. His org, Akon Lighting Africa, has brought light to 14 African countries and he says he could have done the same for Puerto Rico, but even in disaster politics and red-tape reigns supreme. The Smashing Pumpkins will kick off their reunion tour in July with most of the classic members in tow. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the group's sophomore album, Siamese Dream, leading fans to believe there's the chance the band will celebrate it in full on the road. Now, Billy Corgan has shared the "proposed" list of songs that will make up their set.
Songs are culled from five of the band's nine studio efforts, ranging from their debut, Gish, through 2000's Machina/The Machines of God. Among the hits like "Rhinocerous," "Cherub Rock," "Today" and so many others are a handful of covers including Led Zeppelin's iconic "Stairway to Heaven," David Bowie's "Space Oddity" and Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart." See the full proposed set, which Corgan notes is not in its final sequence, below.
The Smashing Pumpkins mainman also noted that he is fielding suggestions from fans because he's sure they've "missed a favorite or two" with rehearsals still being a bit further out. He asks fans to "choose wisely" as "the goal is to build an epic set." The lineup now consists of Corgan, guitarist James Iha, drummer Jimmy Chamberlin and bassist Jeff Schroeder. There's been plenty of back and forth between Corgan and Wretzky regarding her exclusion from the reunion tour (dates here) and she even went as far as to say that Corgan has "always been insufferable" in an explosive interview. Meanwhile, the Pumpkins are looking to the future as well with eight new songs already named.
Following a 2017 injury that left Carrie Underwood with a broken wrist and 40 to 50 stitches, the country singer isn't quite ready to show her entire face yet but she is slowly beginning to feel like herself.
On Friday (Feb. 23), Underwood took to Instagram to share a black-and-white selfie with husband Mike Fisher. In the photo, Fisher appears with a bright red "X" on his fist, while the singer covers half of her face and her entire mouth with an "X" sticker. "Together, we're in it to end it!" she wrote in the caption. "Help us shine a light on modern day slavery. @enditmovement #enditmovement."
While it's not Underwood's first Instagram post of herself since the injury, it is the first photo to show a little bit more of her face. In December, the country star posted a selfie of herself wearing a blue scarf but only her eyes can be seen. She followed that photo with a picture of her in the gym earlier this month but her face is turned away from the camera.
Underwood broke her wrist in November and revealed to Entertainment Tonight that she somehow injured her face as well. "I'll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told [my husband] Mike [Fisher] that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in," she said at the time. "Now, here we are 7 weeks later and, even though I've had the best people helping me, I'm still healing and not quite looking the same," the star said. "I honestly don't know how things are going to end up but I do know this: I am grateful. I am grateful that it wasn't much, much worse." TWICE is back with “Brand New Girl” in their latest music video just a few weeks after the release of their chart-topping Japanese release “Candy Pop,” The B-side of their Candy Pop single album, "Brand New Girl" was released on Feb. 7, over a month after "Candy Pop" first premiered through a music video on Jan. 12. Like the majority of TWICE’s singles, the song is upbeat and full of vibrant, head-bopping verses, with lyrics reflecting on the life of a millennial girl. Pop-rock instrumentals lighten up the song’s sound, forgoing popular EDM and house trends and instead blending peppy drum beats and guitar melodies with sparkling synths and occasional piano riffs. "Brand New Girl" is TWICE's third original Japanese song after “One More Time” and "Candy Pop," marking an increase in their original content aimed at the J-pop market. The video for "Brand New Girl," released Thursday, returns the group to some familiar imagery: the text messages emulate the social-media theme established in "Likey" and there's a return of the handheld camera from the same video. And while the group's golf-wear and school uniforms are new styles, they recall what the K-pop girl group wore in earlier videos like "Cheer Up," which saw the nonet acting as schoolgirls and cheerleaders. There's also a clip from the anime-inspired "Candy Pop" music video. With three Japanese members, TWICE has spent many of the past few months making a dedicated push into the lucrative J-pop industry. They’re one of several rookie Korean acts pivoting to focus on Japan after establishing themselves as prominent K-pop stars; Seventeen and GFriend recently announced that they will also begin to focus heavily on the Japanese market. |
