Overstreet, the new solo project from pop singer-songwriter Chord Overstreet, is embracing the wave on his latest single “Carried Away,” released Friday (June 15) via Island Record / Safehouse Records.
The Nashville-bred musician moves it to the West Coast for a light pop track full of California breeziness, complete with imagery of cruising down the Pacific Coast Highway and kicking back on the beach. For Overstreet, the song is exact getaway he needed during its creation. “‘Carried Away’ is a fun summer song that I wrote while I was in the studio hungover,” Overstreet tells Billboard. “I asked my collaborators if we wanted to just drink and write a fun song and that’s what ended up happening.” The track subverts the summer song template with a deeper meaning beneath the snappy acoustic guitar melody that envelops the track in brightness and Overstreet’s nimble and wholehearted delivery. “The song is about shifting your perspective; it’s not about your reality, but what you want your reality to be,” he reveals. “The song, in a way, is its own form of meditation for me.” With an elevated state of mind, Overstreet is sure to be drifting out in the right direction.
