Trent Reznor promised that Nine Inch Nails fans could look forward to “two new major works” in 2017, shortly after the release of the Not the Actual Events EP. It's now reported that the release(s) will consist of a pair of EPs that will form a trilogy with their predecessor, with the first arriving prior to July 23.
Reznor broke the news in an email (reprinted on a Reddit forum) that went out to those who had pre-ordered vinyl copies of Not the Actual Events and several reissues and not yet received them. He apologized, explained that the delay was due to a combination of problems with their now-former fulfillment partner and “a variety of quality control issues with the audio and various aspects of the artwork.” He accepted full responsibility, gave an updated timeline for delivery and offered a 20 percent discount on future online purchases. He closed by saying, “Finally, did you know there’s a new top-secret Nine Inch Nails EP that will be released before the first shows we do this summer? Did you know Not the Actual Events was the first part of a trilogy of related EPs that will be released 6-8 months apart? Now you do. More information on this shortly.”
