Following a year-long legal dispute over reality star, 19 year old Kylie Jenner‘s application to file a trademark for the singular name “Kylie,” 48 year old pop-star, Kylie Minogue withdrew her opposition on January 19, allowing the makeup mogul’s application to proceed likely after reaching a settlement, BBC reports. Jenner’s lawyers initially filed a request to trademark the name with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 2015, but was faced with resistance when the pop icon’s team filed a notice of opposition in February 2016. In documents obtained by Page Six, Minogue allegedly cited potential confusion and “damage” to her brand as she was noted as an “internationally renowned performing artist, humanitarian and breast cancer activist” who already owned Kylie-related trademarks within several industries spanning fashion to entertainment. (In contrast, Jenner was slammed as a “secondary reality television personality” primarily famous for her social media “exhibitionism.”) According to the Huffington Post, Kylie's request to trademark her full name, “Kylie Jenner,” was rejected by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in July 2016, forcing her lawyers to file an appeal late January.
