Katy Perry Releases New ‘Chained to the Rhythm’

UPDATE: Katy Perry just released her lyric video for 'Chained to the Rhythm'.

Perry, who began teasing the song earlier this week, unveiled her plan to scattered a series of disco balls at various points across the world (“Leave your bubble and bring your headphones,” she tweeted with a map). Fans had the opportunity at any given checkpoint to plug their earbuds into the orbs and listen to the track, and thankfully for us, a few brave Perry-disciples posted the results to Twitter.

Fans from Brazil to Germany to Paraguay shared bits of “Chained to the Rhythm,” which sounds like the bop fans have been hoping to hear from Perry’s forthcoming fourth studio album. “Turn it up, it’s your favorite song / Dance, dance, dance,” Katy mellowly croons over the mid-tempo jam.

Perry, who will perform at the 2017 Grammy Awards, told InStyle in September that she’s angling for a whole new sound with her next project, which she’s all but confirmed will drop later this year.

“Even when I was working with my go-to producers, I’d always push them to play me a beat that was reserved for Three 6 Mafia something like that,” Katy said. “I know exactly how to write a lyric over that because my strengths are melody and lyrics. I’m putting myself in unexpected situations and that is breeding a lot of new color.
