Ja Rule Issues Apology After Fyre Festival Disaster: ‘This Is Not My Fault’

Ja Rule is in the middle of a PR nightmare as he tries to figure out how a luxury vacation in the Bahamas turned into hell on an island.

As we previously reported, Ja Rule’s much-hyped two weekend Fyre Festival event turned into a “disorganized mess,” according to attendees via Twitter. According to reports, the festival grounds looked like a hurricane site and not the getaway party it was hyped up to be. Some folks are now calling the island trip a total scam.

Ja Rule and entrepreneur Billy McFarland reportedly organized the expensive island festival (tickets ranged from $1200-$1500 with luxury packages hitting $250,000) promising “a cultural moment created from a blend of music, art, and food.” Apparently, they failed miserably on all three of those things.

On Friday (April 28), Ja Rule issued a statement via Twitter apologizing to vacationers for the island fiasco. He wrote:
We are working right now on getting everyone [off] the island SAFE that is my immediate concern,” he wrote. “I will make a statement soon. I’m heartbroken at this moment, my partners and I wanted this to be an amazing event. It was NOT A SCAM as everyone is reporting. I don’t know how everything went so left but I’m working to make it right by making sure everyone is refunded…I truly apologize as this is NOT MY FAULT…but I’m taking responsibility. I’m deeply sorry to everyone who was inconvenienced by this.”
Reps of The Fyre Festival Team also issued a statement (via Variety) announcing that “The festival is being postponed until we can further assess if and when we are able to create the high-quality experience we envisioned. We ask for everyone’s patience and cooperation during this difficult time as we work as quickly and safely as we can to remedy this unforeseeable situation.”
There’s no word if all of the attendees at the festival were able to get off the island safely, but hopefully, Ja Rule can rectify this terrible situation.
