Twenty-five years ago, Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam debuted on HBO and became the beacon for grown-folks comedy. The series helped launch the careers of now established superstars like Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, Cedric the Entertainer, Bill Bellamy, Chris Tucker, Tracy Morgan, Steve Harvey and the late Bernie Mac. Netflix will celebrate the iconic series’ 25th anniversary with a new special, Def Comedy Jam 25. According to Netflix, the special will celebrate “the impact and legacy of the long-running comedy series with surprise guests, tributes, and performances in a can’t-miss evening of unbelievably funny and raw moments.” Along with the aforementioned funnymen, Mike Epps, Adele Givens, Eddie Griffin, Tiffany Haddish, D.L. Hughley, Kid Capri, Martin Lawrence, Craig Robinson, JB Smoove, Sommore, Joe Torry, Sheryl Underwood, and Katt Williams are scheduled to appear on the special, which has no airdate as of yet. Def Comedy Jam first ran from 1992 to 1997 before returning from 2006 to 2008. Simmons recently announced that he’s bringing back his Def Comedy Jam reboot to HBO. The cable giant has picked up All Def Comedy for a six-series run in December.

Taylor Swift's new single “Look What You Made Me Do” is a darkly threatening track, featuring her syncopated, sensual vocals over a sparse background mostly of drum beats and samples of her voice.
The track, along with the new album art for her upcoming sixth full-length Reputation, is a passive aggressive stance against her haters, her critics and her non-believers. Many fans are on-board with the new track, but some wish she would of been more "direct' with her metaphors, like songs of hers in the past. The pop star has been taunting Swifties with hints about her forthcoming sixth studio album this week via a series of slithery snake-referencing teasers—dropped the debut single off Reputation at midnight on Thursday (August 24). “Look What You Made Me Do” is off Swift’s brand new album, Reputation, out November 10. Eleven years after dropping her solo debut The Dutchess, Fergie is finally ready to release the sequel Double Dutchess, which features her long-awaited Nicki Minaj collaboration, “You Already Know.” The Dutchess first teased the collaboration back in 2014. Earlier this year, she also honored Minaj at the Fashion Los Angeles Awards. “You Already Know” arrives as Nicki joins forces with gospel songstress Tasha Cobbs Leonard on “I’m Getting Ready” and with London On Da Track, 21 Savage, and Offset on “No Flag.”
Elsewhere on Double Dutchess, Fergie teams up with YG on “L.A.LOVE (la la),” Rick Ross on “Hungry,” and her son Axl on “Enchanté (Carine).” Past singles “Life Goes On” and “M.I.L.F. $”also appear on the album. Listen to “You Already Know” below.
Lady Gaga has announced the upcoming release of a new documentary, Gaga: Five Foot Two. The film will be released via Netflix, and promises to bring the larger-than-life singer down to a more realistic size.
The film claims to be a highly intimate look at the singer’s recent years, though she hasn’t seen it herself for fear of compromising its honestly. “I have seen a few short clips of the documentary but I decided not to watch it all the way through—or most of it, for that matter—because I can’t be objective about myself,” Gaga said. While Lady Gaga is known for her bombastic fanfare and unapologetic fierceness, the clips she has released of Five Foot Two are much more stripped down. One watches an almost indiscernible shape rise out of a pool of water as we hear her speak of the utter loneliness she lives. “I’m alone, every night,” Gaga says. “And all these people will leave, right? They will leave, and then I’ll be alone. And I go from everyone touching me all day and talking at me all day to total silence.” Another clip features the Bulgarian folk song “Kaval Sviri” while Gaga quietly ascends upwards in a wire getup, rehearsing for her Super Bowl halftime show. The moment is dramatic, and a little frightening. You get the sense of the real pressure and fear that the singer must have felt, not just the shock and awe of the spectacle as it aired during the game. In other moments, Gaga is in a doctor’s office to deal with chronic pain. The documentary will also feature looks behind the recording process of Joanne, one of Gaga’s most hotly debated albums, preparing for the Super Bowl, mental health issues and dealing with her split from ex-fiance Taylor Kinney. In an interview with E! News, director Chris Moukarbel said “I had a rare opportunity to create a portrait of an artist with such an open heart and mind. I feel really lucky that Gaga trusted me and my vision.” Watch Lady Gaga’s trailers for Gaga: Five Foot Two below via Instagram. The documentary will premiere on September 22 on Netflix.
Fifth Harmony have officially released their self-titled album, which is the first with their current lineup of just four members. The group returns triumphant and no less full of perfect harmonies. Fifth Harmony includes the singles “Down (feat. Gucci Mane)” and “Angel.”
Track listing: 1. “Down (feat. Gucci Mane)” 2. “He Like That” 3. “Sauced Up” 4. “Make You Mad” 5. “Deliver” 6. “Lonely Night” 7. “Angel” 8. “Messy” 9. “Bridges” Katy Perry couldn’t have picked a more interesting week to release the video for her rumored Taylor Swift diss track “Swish Swish.” Early Thursday morning, the singer, who is hosting Sunday’s VMAs, unveiled the star-studded visual for her Nicki Minaj-assisted single. The new video comes on the heels of Swift announcing the official plans for next album, Reputation. The “Swish Swish” video centers on a basketball game between the star-studded Sheep and Tigers. Among the high-profile celebrities featured are Terry Crews, Molly Shannon, Strangers Things’ Gaten Matarazzo, and Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson a.k.a. The Mountain from Game of Thrones. While Perry recently opened up about the feud between her and Swift, she hasn’t definitively declared that “Swish Swish” is specifically about her rival. When asked by Jimmy Fallon if it was about “anyone we know,” Perry cryptically responded, “I think it’s a great anthem for people to use whenever someone’s trying to hold you down or bully you.” French Montana‘s hit “Unforgettable” is getting a new remix that features Mariah Carey.
Carey is adding her vocals to the new remix, which drops Aug. 24th. Swae Lee is on the remix, as well, his vocals are mixed with Mariah’s new contributions to the track. Montana sat with The Breakfast Club last month and revealed that he spent $600,000 for the hit single. To be more specific, the rapper said it cost him $300,000 to clear the sample and another $300,000 to shoot the video. “It was so much to clear the record,” said French. “I had to pay $300,000 out of my own pocket. Not the label. Out of my own pocket … Then go to the label and the label’s like ‘We can only give you half of that, we never heard about paying $300,000.’ That’s what you call believing in the record.” Showtime has acquired the late musician’s Sign o’ the Times concert documentary and will premiere it on Sept. 16 at 9PM ET, according to Rolling Stone. The concert film was originally shot as a companion piece to Prince’s 1987 landmark double album of the same name. It was released in theaters in the late 1987 but wasn’t a box office hit. The film did get a VHS run but it was never released on DVD. For nearly 30 years, the movie has remained out of print. The 84-minute concert documentary was shot primarily at his own Paisley Park Studios and on tour in the Netherlands and Belgium. Prince performed several of his classic hits including the title track, “U Got the Look” (with Sheena Easton), “If I Was Your Girlfriend, “I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man” and a rendition of the fan-favorite classic, “Little Red Corvette.” His band at the time featured both the Revolution and the New Power Generation, plus Sheila E. played the drums for an extended solo set.
“Cash Me Outside” girl, Danielle Bregoli has put out a rap song.
Bregoli already has street-cred after receiving probation. The track is called “These Heaux” — that’s pronounced “h–” — and features the following R-rated lyrics: “These h— be lackin’, see me in back and / They talk all this s— but don’t say it in person / Water, water drippin’, come take a peek / You in a trailer h-, b—– you can’t compete.” TMZ also reports that Bregoli is calling herself “Bhad Bhabie,” which is pronounced “bad baby.” Many fans are speculating a brand new Taylor Swift single dropping Friday, some even say sooner, and that Swifts next album will follow shortly thereafter. After relentless rumors, gossip and some mysterious slithery snake teasers, Swift announced today (August 23) that her next album will drop November 10, and it’ll be called Reputation. |
