With The New Edition Story airing on BET this week, members Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins and Ronnie DeVoe — collectively known as Bell Biv DeVoe — are taking full advantage of the spotlight.
Just in time for the release of the miniseries, BBD dropped the radio friendly tune “I’m Betta,” off their forthcoming album Three Stripes. As their previous hits, Ricky holds down the singing and hook responsibilities, while Mike and Ronnie spit verses, and you’ll probably notice that they’ve gotten better with their cadence and overall flow. “I’m better than the man you got / Probably ’cause I’m everything your man is not / And if you try to compare I’ma stop you there / It’s like parking a sail boat beside a yacht,” rhymes Bivins, over production from Kay Gee of Naught by Nature. You can listen to the new single below. Look out for the Three Stripes album on January 27 and watch The New Edition story on January 24, at 9:00 p.m. EST on BET.

Lil Wayne posted a video of himself and his friends showing off some basic skateboarding moves and tricks with 2Chainz “Watch Out” playing in the background.
The black and white video was captioned, “TUNCHI FULL KLIP KOMIN SOON!!”. So we can only assume that he’s got something creative up his sleeve. The clip also featured a never-before-heard Wayne track underneath the “Watch Out” beat for a few seconds. While fans are eager for the forthcoming release of Tha Carter V, this video at the very least shows he’s still working on the music even though he’s been busy with several other things lately. And despite the feud with Cash Money, Weezy also previewed a snippet from the album last week. Cash Money mogul, Birdman, confirmed earlier this month that he would not stand in his “son’s” way, also explaining that the much anticipated album is “definitely coming out.” “Wayne is one of the best artists ever to do the game,” Birdman stated. “And I want to see him continue to do what he been doing, and I’m going to support whatever he’s doing.” You can view the skateboard video clip below. Be sure to listen out for the Wayne audio snippet.
Madonna gave a powerful and controversial speech at the 2017 Women’s March in Washington D.C. on Saturday (January 21), she’s now been pressured to clarify the sentiment’s most passionate and misunderstood section.
In a particularly heated part of the oration, Madonna noted “Yes, I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House, but I know that this won’t change anything. We cannot fall into despair.”
Quickly, Madonna got dragged on the internet for her explosive sentiment, but yesterday (January 22), she tried to explain in an Instagram post that the words were simply a fractional component of much broader themes of love and tolerance.
“I want to clarify some very important things. I am not a violent person, I do not promote violence and it’s important people hear and understand my speech in it’s entirety rather than one phrase taken wildly out of context,” she wrote. “I spoke in metaphor and I shared two ways of looking at things – one was to be hopeful, and one was to feel anger and outrage, which I have personally felt. However, I know that acting out of anger doesn’t solve anything. And the only way to change things for the better is to do it with love.”
Ed Sheeran released the music video for his new “Castle on a Hill” single today (January 23), and it’s all good times and terrible weather: Like the song, it revisits Sheeran’s life growing up in the town of Framlingham in Suffolk, England. The George Belfield-directed clip finds a baby-faced Young Ed Sheeran (our favorite Ed Sheeran music video stand-in since Rupert Grint in the “Lego House” visual, and the puppet version of Ed in his “Sing” video) whiling away his teen years in the same way that many do (going for rides in the car, making out, drinking beer) and in some ways not every teen gets to do (running through the lush green landscape of rural England). And while he cherishes that time with his Framlingham friends, the video matches the show’s flash-forward of what became of them in adulthood: “One had two kids but lives alone / One’s brother overdosed / One’s already on his second wife.” “Castle on the Hill” and “Shape of You” are the first singles from Sheeran’s third studio album “÷“ (divide), which debuts on March 3 via Atlantic Records. County D.A. charged Soulja Boy with 2 felonies -- possession of an assault weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was also charged with a misdemeanor for receiving stolen property. Police say one of the guns in Soulja's house was reportedly stolen from a cop car. The assault weapon charge is for a Mini Draco AR-15 ... which is illegal for anyone to possess in California. If convicted Soulja could face more than 4 years in prison. R&B singer Chrisette Michele has released her first new song since performing at an official Trump inauguration event this past weekend. Its title, “No Political Genius,” (the title track from a forthcoming album) echoes her statement released following the controversy surrounding her appearance at Trump’s Liberty Ball, as well as the preface to a statement tweeted last July about the election campaign. The lyrics allude to former collaborator Questlove's criticism and Spike Lee’s decision not to use her music in his upcoming Netflix series, Black Girl Magic. Michele begins the spoken-word track: “I am the black song Spike Lee won’t sing/I am the black voice inauguration bells ring.” She goes on to put forward a vehement defense of her decision, describing herself as the “black elephant in the red room scared shook.” Your hateful words won’t be my defining moment ... They will be my ammunition to fight the system/We will win them/Hope is alive/This is my standing/For John Lewis and Ben Carson/Questlove, Spike Lee, and before them/I won’t divide now/That’s not smart now/God before me, I won’t back down/This is my damn America now Kid Rock making a comeback in 2017, as the rocker has been chosen to open the new Little Caesars Arena in his home base of Detroit and he’s hoping to have a new album ready to coincide with the occasion.
Speaking at a press conference, Rock told reporters, “Yeah, we’ll have a record … before the shows, yes. That’s the plan now.” Rock will actually play four shows — Sept. 12, 13, 15 and 16 — that will serve as the grand opening of the new Detroit-based venue. Rock revealed that he’s been working on new music in Nashville and he told Billboard, “It’s kind of going back to Rock n Roll Jesus, Devil Without a Cause. I’ve got a lot of different things on there — big rock songs, rootsy sounding stuff, hardcore rap stuff, kind of all over the board. I do have a lot of songs but I’m not sure what I’m going to put on the record or how I’m going to release it yet. It’s like the Wild West right now, so we’ll see.” Rock revealed that it’s his intent to play sporadically in the lead up to the album, waiting until after the disc is released before scheduling a full-fledged tour. The musician also contemplated the possibility of developing something with Little Caesars Arena similar to the monthly shows Billy Joel has performed with Madison Square Garden in New York. “We haven’t gotten into the nuts and bolts about it yet, but we definitely spoke about it. We may be able to see this be like a Billy Joel thing. That would definitely be interesting,” stated Rock. Tidal, the music streaming service owned by rapper Jay Z and a few well-known musicians, has been accused of inflating its user numbers to appear more successful than it actually is. A report published in Norwegian by the newspaper Dagens Næringsliv says that Tidal has over-reported its subscriber numbers on at least two occasions. The report alleges that while Jay Z tweeted in September 2015 that Tidal had "1,000,000 people and counting," his streaming service actually had 830,000 subscribers, according to internal reports. Dagens Næringsliv says Tidal's internal report may have even overstated the subscriber number. It says that payments made to record labels at that time indicated that the service had around 350,000 subscribers. The report also highlights another time when it alleges that Tidal's public user numbers misaligned with its internal figures. It said in a press release on March 30 that it had grown to 3 million paying subscribers, up from 900,000 in June 2015. But Dagens Næringsliv says that in April, a month after Tidal claimed to have 3 million subscribers, its internal reports showed 1.2 million subscribers. And payments to record labels indicated that it had 850,000 subscribers. Fetty Wap and the Zoo Gang throw the ultimate house party in the new video for “Sh-t I Like.” Fetty also directed the video, which is filled with hot women, flashing cash and hangin' with the homies. Fetty’s Zoo Gang brethren Monty also makes an appearance in the clip, dressed in jeans and a black hoodie and rocking a long gold chain that says “1738.” The cut “Sh-t I Like” is off Fetty’s mixtape Zoovier, released back in September, which can be streamed and downloaded here. |
