‘All Eyez on Me’ Nets $27.1 Million at the Box Office

Despite less than favorable reviews from critics and harsh criticisms from Jada Pinkett Smith and 50 Cent, the Tupac Shakur biopic, All Eyez on Me, had a great opening weekend at the box office.

According to comScore (via PR Newswire), which tabulates worldwide box office receipts, AEOM earned an estimated $27.1 million in the U.S. for what is a $30.1 million worldwide bow. That’s not bad considering it was competing against tentpole movies like the animated flick Cars 3 (which debut at No. 1 with $53.5 million domestically) and the superhero flick Wonder Woman and the Tom Cruise-actioner The Mummy.

The $40 million-budgeted movie, directed by Benny Boom, is expected to make a $50 million domestic total after playing a few weeks in the theaters. While that might be a low number, it’s still a big achievement for the film. Of course, it won’t come close to the enormously successful Straight Outta Compton biopic, which earned $161 million at the box office.
