Alec Benjamin's video for "Mind Is A Prison" released on (Dec. 23), showcases Benjamin with his hands chained to the bottom of a fishbowl with rising water levels that make him feel like he's not just stuck -- he's drowning. I'm just a tenant, paying rent inside this body and I/ Got two windows, and those windows, well, I call them my eyes/ I'm just going where the wind blows, I don't get to decide," he somberly sings within the first verse, using an apartment as an analogy for his mind, or his ultimate prison cell. His mesmerizing falsetto captures his cry for escape, which he methodically details in the chorus. But despite using his bedsheets to scale the side of the building to run for the hills where "they" still find him and put him back in "my cell," according to the lyrics, there's no end in sight for Benjamin. Furthermore, the tank's water submerging his head and thus entire body in the video does not signal a happy ending for the 25-year-old singer-songwriter.
