After more than a year of "going through a lot of changes," Tinashe took to social media Saturday (Sept. 28) to give fans an update.
"I’m back and I’m better," Tinashe captioned the brief video. In the clip, Tinashe admits that she's been "quiet for a minute" while working on new music, but that she's recently felt inspired and "feeling so free." Earlier this year, the singer parted ways with RCA Records following the 2018 release of her long-delayed sophomore album, Joyride. "Creatively, I just feel like I needed to go through what I went through in order to be the person that I am today and to get back to my roots," she explains. "You pretty much put your heart and soul and emotions into all these songs and then you put them out there for the world to judge and tear down and pick apart. It's terrifying and it can really mess with your head." Tinashe goes on to reject people who have tried to put her musical style into a box and limit her potential as an artist. "Music and art are supposed to be these wonderful beautiful things that bring people joy and happiness, and that's really why I started making music in the first place -- to give people something that means something to them," the singer says.
