Alessia Cara took home the Grammy for Best New Artist at the 2018 Grammy Awards tonight (January 28), capping off a whirlwind year.
While accepting her award, Cara said, "Holy cow, I'm shaking. I've been pretend-winning Grammys since I was a kid, like, in my shower, so you'd think I'd have the speech thing down... but I absolutely don't!" Cara thanked her parents and brother for "believing in [her] and supporting her dream," as well as her fans for being "so supportive." Cara also shared a message for other emerging artists and music hopefuls: "There are some incredible artists making incredible music that deserve to be acknowledged that don't always get acknowledged because of popularity contests and numbers games. And that's kind of unfortunate, so I just wanna encourage everyone to support real music and real artists because everyone deserves the same shot." The 2018 Best New Artist win marks Cara's first Grammy award and her fourth Grammy nomination.

Spotify, who arguably leads the charge in the streaming revolution, has only now changed its rules to credit remixers for the streams their remixes garner. Until now, only the original artist received the streaming numbers, and the remixer's popular songs list on their page wouldn't reflect popular remixes streamed either.
"Remixes are a major part of the way music evolves in the 21st century," Spotify said in its official announcement. "They build bridges between genres and they connect cultures around the world. Now Spotify is making some changes designed to give remixers the credit they deserve." Spotify also interviewed famed and Grammy-decorated remixer Little Louie Vega to talk proper remixes from start to finish. Read all about it on Spotify's website. Migos’ is accused by a rising producer who took toInstagram to reveal that they jacked his beat.
The post was spotted on Reddit and later reported on Pigeon and Planes, up-and-coming producer JSDG Beats called out the Migos for beat jacking on the LP track “Movin’ Too Fast.” In a series of posts on his Instagram account, which have since been deleted, he accused the "Bad and Boujee" trio of removing his tags and credit from the track, along with co-producer Manny Flexx. JSDG Beats was able to post screenshots of evidence that seem to show that Offset had opened a file JSDG sent to him via Hubspot. He also provided screenshots of the file for the track, which has his name credited to the 808 drums used on the song. He also posted a image of what appears to be an email he sent to Migos containing the beat in question. "I put my number and all. And they labeled it huncho on the beat," he wrote. "I did not wake up today to find out Migos stole a beat from me. BRO REALLY?????" "Quavo your [sic] crazy," he added. "For real never knew you made beats...I wonder what your next beat will sound like?" JSDG Beats, who has produced tracks for Jim Jones, Dave East and Desiigner, would later go on his IG page and tell his followers that the beat jacking situation has been addressed. Janet Jackson will not be reuniting with Justin Timberlake at the Super Bowl LII halftime show on Sunday, February 4, multiple sources confirm to Us Weekly.
A source close to the Jackson family confirmed that Janet, will not be taking the stage with Timberlake, 36. The “Filthy” singer is set to make his comeback to the Super Bowl stage next month. He previously performed at the NFL championship event with ’NSync in 2001 and then with Jackson in 2004. During his performance with the “Rhythm Nation” songstress, Timberlake accidentally exposed the singer’s breast on stage. The incident caused the FCC to implement a five-second broadcast delay during future live performances. Justin recently opened up about Jackson’s malfunction in an interview with Apple Music’s Beats 1 host Zane Lowe. “Naturally, that’s something we talked about,” Timberlake said in the sit-down interview, which aired on January 18. “To be honest, it wasn’t too much of a conversation. It’s just one of those things where you go, like, ‘Yeah, what do you want me to say? We’re not going to do that again!’” “I stumbled through it, to be quite honest,” the 10-time Grammy winner continued. “I had my wires crossed, and it’s just something that you have to look back on and go, like, ‘OK, well, you know, you can’t change what’s happened but you can move forward and learn from it.’” The former boy bander also revealed that he and the “All For You” singer have made peace since the controversial gig. “Absolutely,” he said. “And I don’t know that a lot of people know that. I don’t think it’s my job to do that because you value the relationships that you do have with people.” Nelly is countersuing the woman claiming she came on to him, and then lied about their sexual encounter to get him criminally prosecuted.
Nelly filed the suit in Seattle Friday, and in the docs says ... Monique Greene made her way into his VIP section of the nightclub where he was headlining, and started enthusiastically flirting with him. He says he invited her to join him and others back on his tour bus. Nelly insists they had consensual sex, and Greene only got pissed when one of his performers -- he told police it was a backup dancer -- entered the room to use his bathroom. He describes Greene as "aggressive and disruptive" and says she was asked to leave at that point. Greene called for an Uber and then called police to report the incident ... leading to Nelly's arrest for rape. Greene and her attorney made several statements on the Internet that falsely accused him of raping her. He says the statements were a clear and malicious attempt to get him prosecuted. Nelly adds her claims cost him money -- he was forced to cancel a scheduled performance -- and also damaged his reputation in the music biz. He's also filed a motion to strike Greene's claim he sexually harassed at least 2 other women -- and wants her defamation suit against him dismissed because he has every right to publicly deny what he says is a false claim of rape.
