After teasing the track piece-by-piece on Instagram over the past week, Shakira and Maluma — two of Colombia’s finest musical exports — have at last unveiled their collaboration, the latest off of Shakira’s forthcoming Spanish-language album: “Chantaje.” (That’s “Blackmail” in English.)
As with many of her pairings, including “Can’t Remember to Forget You” with Rihanna and “Beautiful Liar” with Beyoncé, the track sees Shaki at her seductive best, hitting the floor with the “Borro Cassette” reggaeton hottie for a bit of back-and-forth conflicted temptation. “Un día digo que no y otro que si,” she coos across the beat. “Yo soy masoquista,” Maluma laments. There are also references to past works abound in the outro: “Pretty boy,” the Fijación Oral goddess moans as the song comes to a close. “Be my baby, loba,” Maluma replies. It is, in a word, fuego.
