Kylie Minogue just released her newest single “Dancing,” which is an upbeat pop song presumed to be about having a fun night out.
Minogue confirmed that her new song is about death. Some of the song’s lyrics, especially the chorus’ “When I go out, I wanna go out dancing,” can be interpreted as Minogue saying that she wants to die dancing.
“I think that’s clever writing,” she told EW. “It’s just a fact of life, isn’t it? It’s about how we deal with the life we have.”
Minsogue subtly hinted at this fact in the song’s music video, where she dances around a club with backup dancers wearing Day of the Dead-inspired makeup and costumes. Minogue described the video as “Dolly Parton meets Day of the Dead.”
“Dancing” is the lead single off of Minogue’s forthcoming album, Golden, out April 6.
