Katy Perry's hit song about kissing a girl, may have been inspiration from her real life.

Perry is known for taking a stance on what she believes in and not backing down when it comes to politics, equal rights, and her professional entertainment career. She consistently breaks the mold which garners more fans each and every day. Now, she's speaking up about her fluid sexuality and growing up in an environment where being gay was looked down upon.

Katy's parents are both pastors which is why her childhood may have been somewhat more religious than the average kid. The bombshell just recently opened up about the early stages of her life and how finding herself and being true to who she really is has actually helped her become the Katy Perry we all know and love today.

While accepting the National Equality Award at the 2017 HRC Los Angeles Gala, Katy referenced her 2008 hit, "I Kissed a Girl and I Liked It" and said, "Truth be told, I did more than that! But how was I going to reconcile that with the gospel-singing girl raised in youth groups that were pro conversion camps? What I did know was that I was curious, and even then I knew that sexuality was not as black and white as this dress."

She continued, "But in 2008, when that song came out, I knew that it started a conversation that a lot of the world seemed curious enough to sing along to it."

Katy made a shocking confession that she actually, "prayed the gay away at Jesus camps." However, after meeting certain people her life began to change. She said, "These people were nothing like I had been taught to fear. They were the most free, strong, kind, and inclusive people that I have ever met. They stimulated my mind, and they filled my heart with joy, and they danced with joy while doing it. These people are actually, magic, and they are magic because they are living their truth."

Her words are incredibly powerful but she didn't stop there. Katy made sure to point out that family is family – she will never get rid of hers. But, what she can do, is find others to surround herself with in her day to day life that do have the same beliefs as her.

"Priceless lessons happen large. The path of discovery has made me, has tested me, and forever changed me. You don’t get to choose your family, but you can choose your tribe. I stand here as real evidence for all that no matter where you came from it is about where you are going, that real change, real evolution, and that real perception shift can happen, if we open our minds and soften our hearts. No longer can I sit in silence. I have to stand up what I feel is true and that is equality and justice for all, period."

Bravo, Katy! Not only was the speech inspiring but also jaw-dropping. She has never talked about this part of her life before in such a candid way. This shows that just because she may seem larger than life, her problems and obstacles are still the same things her fans struggle with as well. There's no doubt that this made her that much more relatable!
