John Legend releases "We Need Love" on Tuesday (May 28) following the premiere of NBC's Songland. The reality competition show follows aspiring songwriters who are given a chance to write a song, then have it recorded by artists like Legend, the Jonas Brothers and Meghan Trainor. The winner of the first episode was Bahamian-born, Miami-based songwriter Tebby Burrows. Her song “We Need Love” was initially critiqued by the judges for being too sweet and soft, but eventually was reworked with the judges and taken up by Legend, who recorded the song and released it on Tuesday night. Legend was the episode's celebrity judge, alongside regulars Ryan Tedder, Ester Dean, and Shane McAnally. "The verses feel really nice now," Legend said after hearing the reworked track towards the end of the episode. "It's super conversational...it really gave me chills, I felt it and [I'm] ready to record it." The next episode of Songland is set to air on Tuesday (June 4) at 10:00 p.m. EST.
