NBC has renewed the Jennifer Lopez cop drama Shades of Blue for a third season, it was announced Friday (March 17). Season 3 will consist of 10 episodes.

The series, which also stars Ray Liotta, Drea de Matteo and Warren Kole, centers on a single mother and detective (Lopez) who is hiding several dark secrets.

Lopez is also an executive producer on Shades of Blue, along with Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina, Ryan Seacrest, Nina Wass, creator Adi Hasak and showrunner Jack Orman. The series hails from Universal Television, Nuyorican Productions, EGTV, Ryan Seacrest Productions and Jack Orman Productions.

“We’re so hugely appreciative of everything Jennifer and Ray do and know it is due to their dedication, as well as the hard work of our incredible cast and producers, that Shades of Blue has so clearly and compellingly earned a third-season renewal,” said NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke. “This show continues to mine powerful stories that always leave us hungry for more.”

The renewal comes early into Shades of Blue's second-season run. The drama returned on March 1 following unscripted hit Little Big Shots and Dick Wolf's Chicago Justice to a solid 1.0 rating among adults 18-49. So far, season two has averaged a 1.6 rating with three days of delayed viewing factored in.

However, the early renewal is not surprising, given Lopez's busy schedule. The actress-singer-dancer is also an exec producer and judge on NBC's forthcoming dance competition World of Dance, which is slated to debut in May. Lopez is also set to star in the network's next live musical telecast, Bye Bye Birdie, which is expected to debut at the end of the year. Lopez also has a Las Vegas residency, titled All I Have, and has been working on a Spanish-language album.

In addition to Shades of Blue, NBC's slate of returning series for the 2017-2018 season also includes This Is Us, The Good Place and Superstore.
