Hugh Jackman has announced a worldwide arena tour of his one-man stage show.
The Australian actor will sing and dance his way across countries in America and Europe, performing songs from films The Greatest Showman and Les Misérablesas well as musicals he’s performed in the past (The Boy from Oz, Oklahoma).
Jackman revealed the news on Good Morning America, saying: “This is a dream come true for me.”
He described it as a one-man show backed with a 26 piece orchestra “and about 30 singers and dancers”. He also confirmed he’ll be joined by Greatest Showmanco-star Keala Settle, who appeared in the 2017 film as the Bearded Lady.
Jackman, who appeared in Tom Hooper’s big-screen version of Les Mis in 2012, has previously performed his one-man show on Broadway as well as at venues in Australia.
The actor, who has played Wolverine in eight X-Men film, will next be seen playing former presidential candidate Gary Hart in The Frontrunner from Junodirector Jason Reitman.
Box office hit The Greatest Showman will also be receiving the theatre treatment in a previously announced Broadway show which is in the early stages of development.
The musical about the life of 19th century American circus ringmaster PT Barnum, also starring Zac Efron, Michelle Williams and Zendaya, may have been memorably dismissed as “a shrill blast of nothing” by Peter Travers of Rolling Stone, but its cultural impact is undeniable.
