Future bass has become a genre so ubiquitous, it's almost a turn off to speak its name. But in 2011, it was a sound so new and experimental it set the whole of Australia and the world on fire. It was a noise championed by the label Future Classic, home to Cashmere Cat, Nicky Murphy, Wave Racer, Classixx, Com Truise, SOPHIE, and a little guy named Flume.
Flume joined the label after he earned second place in a label-hosted remix contest, and he went on to become one of the most influential producers of his generation. His 2012 debut LP seemed to dictate future bass as the new sound, and soon everyone from no names to Zedd were copying his wonky style. It was a new day for dance music, and we've never been the same. Both the journeys of Future Classic and Flume fall under close inspection with two distinct documentaries on Apple Music. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show from Flume: When Everything Was New and Sleepless: The Story of Future Classic. Each premieres on Friday (Apr. 20), as if it's to be expected that you will be doing a lot of sitting on a couch watching cool visuals that day. You get it. The documentaries are exclusive to Apple Music, so be sure to update your subscription or sign up for that free trial life before you settle in.
