Depeche Mode Will Let Fans Run Their Facebook Page

For the next year, Depeche Mode are giving up control of their Facebook page. Today, they announced a new campaign, beginning Feb. 24, that will let a different fan run it for a day.

​Lead singer Dave Gahan broke the news in a video they uploaded to Facebook (which you can see below).

​ Saying that the band are too busy preparing for their world tour in support of their upcoming album Spirit to devote time to their Facebook page, they are letting fans take care of it.

You can apply over at their website, where they say, “Whether you’ve been a fan since Basildon, or since yesterday, we want to hear from you. That means concert-goers, cover artists, bloggers, roadies, former fans, superfans, significant others, young fans, old fans, and more. Basically, if you’ve got something interesting to say about Depeche Mode, we just might let you say it as Depeche Mode.”

Spirit is coming out on March 17 and, six weeks later, on March 5, they’re beginning a tour in Sweden that will keep them in Europe through mid-July. North and South American dates have yet to be announced.

The group also released a proper video for “Where’s the Revolution,” the first single from Spirit. Filmed in black-and-white and directed by their longtime friend Anton Corbijn, who has created many clips for the band over their career, the video echoes the song’s themes about elected leaders manipulating the general population into a sense of complacency. You can watch it above.
