BTS Ties 2NE1 For The Fifth-Longest-Charting Single On The World Songs Ranking

One of BTS's most successful releases reaches a very special milestone on the Billboard charts.

BTS’s single “Mic Drop,” the most popular version of which was remixed by Steve Aoki and features rapper Desiigner, is present on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart once again this week at No. 21. The track has now spent 121 frames somewhere on the short list, which is one of the most impressive stays in the history of the list among all Korean acts.

“Mic Drop” is now tied with another track as the fifth-longest-charting track by a Korean artist or group on the World Digital Song Sales ranking. On the same level as “Mic Drop” is 2NE1’s “I Am the Best,” which also managed 121 turns on the list. 

Leading the way among all singles by Korean artists when it comes to the most time spent on the World Digital Songs chart is Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” which has now lived on the list for 342 weeks (and counting). BTS’s “Dope” is next up with 139 frames, followed by BigBang’s “Fantastic Baby” with 136 turns and finally BTS’s “Fire,” which rounds out the top five. That cut managed 123 weeks somewhere on the tally, enough to make it the fourth-longest-charting in the ranking’s tenure.

While BTS may currently be tied with 2NE1, the septet’s collaboration with Desiigner continues to add to its total almost every week, while 2NE1’s “I Am the Best” hasn’t been present on the chart for a while, and it is unlikely to return anytime soon.

If “Mic Drop” can hold on and land on next week’s World Digital Song Sales chart, which seems likely at this point, it will keep the title of the fifth-longest-charting Korean single in the lists’s history, while 2NE1’s “I Am the Best” will dip outside the top five.
