BTS are back with their heavily anticipated brand new music video for their single “Fake Love.” Released on Friday (May 18), “Fake Love” is the lead single off of the group’s Love Yourself: Tear album. The video for “Fake Love” expands BTS’ creative narrative, rife with imagery that correlates to its lyrics -- such as the appearance of a flower that "can't be bloomed in a dream that can't come true" -- and refers back to past thematic eras. Vocalist Jungkook takes center stage throughout much of the song, running in an Inception-like hallway where floorboards fall away, desperately exploring a wall of water on his own, and eventually returning to the masked figure seen in teaser clips for “Fake Love.” “Fake Love” is the second video associated with BTS’ Love Yourself: Tear album; V’s solo song “Singularity” was released through a video earlier this month in anticipation of the LP. Love Yourself: Tear and the video for "Fake Love" come eight months to the day after the release of BTS’ record-breaking Love Yourself: Her, which became the first album from a K-pop group to hit the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 last year. Within a hour of its release on YouTube, the "Fake Love" video racked up over a million views. The group will perform the track at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday (May 20), where they are also nominated in the Top Social Artist category.
