Big Hit Entertainment, the company behind K-Pop supergroup BTS, and its newly acquired label Source Music will be holding global auditions to find the next girl group.
The auditions will reach 16 cities around the world, including Seoul, Tokyo, Los Angeles, New York City, Melbourne and more. Big Hit CEO Bang Si-Hyuk and CBO Min Hee-jin will take the lead in planning the new group, expected to debut in 2021, according to Big Hit. This will be Big Hit’s first girl group since bringing on CBO Min Hee-jin in July 2019. “CEO Bang Si-Hyuk will oversee production including music producing, while CBO Min Hee-jin will lead the creative direction and branding that encompasses concept, video and image,” the company said in a press release. “The two companies plan to fully utilize their capacities in launching the next-generation girl group backed by the know-hows accumulated home and abroad.” On July 28, Big Hit announced that it had acquired Korean entertainment company Source Music, moving the company toward a multi-label structure. The new acquisition not only expanded Big Hit’s range of artists, but also created a “high growth potential in the girl group category,” according to Big Hit.
