Ariana Grande, who dated Mac Miller for two years before the couple broke up in May, released a written and video tribute Friday (September 14) to the rapper, who died earlier this month of a reported overdose.
In a poignant Instagram post, Grande says she hopes Miller is "okay now," and chronicles the couple's time together. "i adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will," she writes over video that finds the couple laughing and talking. "i canât believe you arenât here anymore. i really canât wrap my head around it. we talked about this. so many times. iâm so mad, iâm so sad i donât know what to do. you were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else. iâm so sorry i couldnât fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope youâre okay now. rest." Grande and Miller began dating in 2016 and broke up this spring, after which Grande shared a message calling the relationship "toxic." âI have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety & prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course),â she wrote. âBut shaming/blaming women for a manâs inability to keep his shit together is a very major problem.â
