Sky Ferreira's record label locked her out of her own SoundCloud account. In a post on Instagram directed at SoundCloud, she claims that she was “forced” to hand over the account information to her label after her debut studio album Night Time, My Time came out in 2013. “They gave me the wrong information & changed it so I can no longer access it,” she says.
“I earned the hundreds of thousands of people that follow the account without my label & have never had help/paid for anything on social media or whatever. I think soundcloud as the website that allows musicians to have freedom.” Ferreira continued the post by asking for the streaming platform to “please help” her situation. See the full post below.
In the past, Ferreira voiced her concerns with the music industry. She’s also expressed difficulties in working with Polydor and EMI, citing label troubles as the reason for the delay of her upcoming album Masochism. In December, she announced plans to release a “heavily visual” new project by the end of 2018.
“Unfortunate (some absurd) circumstances that were beyond my reach kept [the album] from happening,” she said in an Instagram post from June. “It is my fault for not saying something sooner & letting it all repeat itself.” In January, Ferreira teased a “heavily visual” new musical project slated to drop this year. Agnez Mo and Chris Brown have teamed up for their new track "Overdose." Agnez and Brown go back and forth on this steamy ode to bright-burning relationships and addicting love. The track is accompanied by a lyric video, in which footage of couples biking, kissing, laughing, rolling around, touching each other -- and many other PG-13 rated activities -- plays. The rumored couple previously collaborated in December for “On Purpose,” off Brown’s Heartbreak On a Full Moon Deluxe Edition: Cuffing Season - 12 Days Of Christmas.
Moving on from his short-lived feud with 6ix9ine, Vic Mensa got back to music on Friday (July 27) and dropped off his latest single, the afrobeat-inspired "Metaphysical."
Produced by Papi Beatz and Stefan Ponce, the same man behind the house-infused "Down on My Luck," Mensa's latest single finds the rapper showing off his singing chops as he expresses his feelings for a woman. "I been, I been here, you been near/But I'm always there/Let me know if you get this/Loving you from a distance," an auto-tuned Mensa croons. According to Vic, the song deals with desire and is inspired by his fathers Ghanian roots. "This is a song about desire. Admiration. Respect. Uncertainty. Surrender," the Windy City rhymer said. "Musically it's African, tribal. My father is Ghanian so I've wanted to take it there for a long time. I got Stefan Ponce who did 'Down On My Luck' for me and Papi Beatz and just spoke my truth into song." In a series of Instagram posts from July 25, Mensa said, "See me and these fucking hands. No security. We seen you driving around Chicago with eight police. Shoot the one-on-one. See what happen to you, boy. I'll turn your muthafuckin' face the color of your hair." The feud stemmed from Mensa claiming 6ix9ine stole the style of a number of Chicago artists while also beefing with them. But it appears the Roc Nation spitter has moved on, saying in a different video, “Honestly, fuck all that beef shit. I’m about positivity, peace, and the music over everything."
