BTS held its “Bang Bang Con” virtual series this weekend. The near-24 hour streaming event offered fans the chance to enjoy a plethora of past BTS performances and other content from the comfort of their homes. The virtual convention, notably, amassed 50.59 million total views. At its peak, it was reaching a concurrent audience of 2.24 million. Not simply passive viewers, audience members interacted socially, leading to 6.46 million in hashtag engagements between WeVerse and Twitter. “Big Hit Entertainment applied a technology that changes the color of the light stick depending on the audio signal of the video when linked in Bluetooth mode, in such a way that viewers who tuned in via community platform Weverse felt as if they gathered in one place and cheered together,” details the entertainment group regarding a special “BANG BANG CON” engagement feature. Across the two-day convention, fans connected 500,000 light sticks from 162 different regions. "I Purple You" becomes a trending topic after BangBangCon Day 1 as ARMY celebrate BTS V's iconic phrase showing its overwhelming impact."
Just over a week ago, BTS made history on YouTube when the video for their hit single “DNA” grabbed the title of the upload with the most comments. With over 5.07 million individual comments below the popular clip, the visual passed another Korean favorite, Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” for the specific honor. The fact that more people have left comments on BTS’s “DNA” video than any other video on the platform is huge, and that statistic says a lot about those who follow the band when considering how well the clip has performed in other ways. At present, “DNA” has yet to accrue one billion views on YouTube, though it is quickly approaching that milestone. When it does eventually pass that special mark, it will be one of a very small number of Korean-language tunes to do so, but the same can’t be said when looking at all styles and tongues. “DNA” may be the video with the most comments, but it is far from the most popular option on YouTube. One might expected that the visual that has racked up the most opinions from viewers might also rank among the most-watched posts, but that is not the case. In fact, there are almost 200 videos that have now been watched at least one billion times, and there are at least 10 uploads with three times as many clicks. The fact that BTS’s “DNA” stands as the most commented-on video of all time but doesn’t rank among the 200 most-viewed clips shows that fans of the Korean septet are not just passively listening to the song via YouTube instead of another site (such as Spotify or Apple Music), but that they are much more active in their viewing. BTS fans are participating in a discussion about that one song at a much higher rate than, say, those tuning in to hear Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” which currently ranks in a distant first place on the list of the most-watched visuals on the platform. That post has been seen over six and a half billion times, but it comes in behind “DNA” when looking at comments by over one and a half million. BTS fans and their haters have shown that they are constantly interested in speaking with one another about the seven-member vocal outfit, and clearly they don’t mind what platform they do so on, whether it be Twitter, Instagram or even in the comments section of a YouTube video. The Global Citizen’s One World: Together at Home special, which is being held in support of the World Health Organization, is happening on a few hours. There are so many performers participating in the eight-hour marathon and luckily, the performance times for all of the performers have been announced so you know when to tune in to see your favorite stars. The first six hours of the special are going to be live streamed on YouTube while the main show will begin at 8/7c ABC, CBS, and NBC are all airing the main show. Listen to “50ft.” below The hits keep coming! BTS’s RM revealed that the group is already preparing for their next album. On April 17, RM held a livestream on the group’s official BANGTANTV YouTube channel to catch fans up with what the members have been doing. He explained, “I turned this on because we wanted to try something new,” and added, “It’s not that this content has a specific name to it. With our concerts being postponed or canceled and the situation extending over a long period of time, we came to the conclusion to try something new.” He explained, “It’s nothing much, we just wanted to share what we’ve been doing to feel more connected and that we’re doing a lot of things together. From now on, we plan to share our lives with you about once a week.” Most notably, RM talked about BTS’s plans for their next comeback. He said, “I’m sure many of you have guessed by now, but we’re going to be releasing another album. We’ve begun preparing for it. We’re going to be sharing that preparation process with you. No details have been decided as of now, we’ve only just started talking about it. That we’re going to be creating something new. We’re going to work hard to do that.” RM raised anticipation for the album as he continued to say, “We’re not sure when that album will be released. I’m sure there will be moments that we don’t want to show because the album making process isn’t always beautiful, but even though we don’t know what the end result will be, we’ll do our best.” BTS’s latest album was released in February 2020 with their title track “ON.” Chloe x Halle released the new track “Catch Up“, which features Swae Lee. “[The song] is a tit for tat heartbreak love story,” they told Teen Vogue. “It shares both a male and female perspective on when two people are doing each other wrong in a relationship. We were able to deep-dive into feelings of love, anger, and jealousy while creating with Swae Lee.” Chloe x Halle also had to rethink their video idea for the song, and collaborated with creative director Andrew Makadsi, artist Ignasi Monreal, and animator Bliss on the visual. “In choosing to be safe we still did not want to settle for the easiest and most convenient choices,” Andrew said. “In speaking with Chloe x Halle, it was important to push ourselves in creating beautiful art. I’ve been a big fan of Ignasi’s paintings and it was the perfect moment to work together. The teams worked remotely from their homes in Europe, NYC, and LA and I am so proud of what was created.” In February, Monsta X released their new album ALL ABOUT LUV, the South Korean group's first all-English project. Friday (April 17), MX dropped a new music video for the track "You Can't Hold My Heart." Following the album's release, Monsta X performed the song on Today, and in March -- before the nationwide shelter-in-place orders came -- stopped by The Kelly Clarkson show as well. But now, in the age of social distancing and without any in-real-life performances coming soon (though the act is still scheduled for a North American summer trek), the video is plenty to hold us over. Sam Smith and Demi Lovato‘s new collab “I’m Ready” was released on Thursday afternoon (April 16) in the US. Sam recently opened up about the new pop song with Demi. “It’s 2020 ABBA. Do you know what I mean? It’s like, we’ve had fun doing this. I haven’t taken myself seriously. I’m nervous about the song because the song for me is a song that’s reaching,” Sam told Apple Music. “And whenever I have those… You know what I say when a song’s reaching, when it’s like you’re reaching for the stars in the melody, you’re reaching for the stars in all of it. It almost sounds a bit musical theater at times. It feels cheesy at times. And I’m trying to own that because that is a genuine feeling that comes out sometimes in the studio and it’s fun. It’s really fun to go to that place.” “With us, with me and Demi singing, I know that we’re so inspired by those things, those musical theater. What people would in our music world we’re called cheesy is places that I go to that I enjoy going to sometimes, you know? And it’s about feeling no shame. I think this song really, for me, is about feeling no shame in some of the things that I make because I’m releasing music in a climate where music’s really cool a lot of the time. It’s really, really cool,” they continued. “It’s basically just one of my inspirations is musical theater and these types of songs that reach. And I think it’s me saying that I’m going to reach and it’s okay, you know? And it’s okay to play around and have these moments without feeling ashamed for being really pop, you know? When you see the video, you’re going to scream.” Kehlani released music video and track 'Everybody Business'. “Everybody Business” is a song about the psychological effects of living your entire life in public, dealing with the judgment of strangers. Kehlani co-produced the track with Go Grizzly and Loshendrix. In the video, Kehlani wanders through a neighborhood, wearing headphones and singing into a mic, looking elegantly pensive. Once again, Kehlani directed this one herself, using the punny name Hyphy Williams. It’s hard to tell whether she shot this one before or after the social-distancing era, since nobody else appears onscreen. |
