R&B Legend Anita Baker Announces She’s Retiring from Music: ‘Im On a Different Road’

After entertaining audiences for over 30 years, Anita Baker recently announced that she’s retiring from music.

Over the weekend, the Grammy-winning singer went on Twitter to clear up rumors that she’s dropping a new album. She also confirmed that she is retiring and enjoying her new life as a beach bum.

“Lotta rumours out there. No Tour. No CD. #Retired #BeachBum #ThankUJesus,” she tweeted.

The only project Baker is preparing is her upcoming birthday. In another tweet, she wrote, “Jan 26th will celebrate my 59th BDay (lord willing) retirement was 1 of many goals/dreams #SuchaBlessing.”

“Oh, no regrets,” she added. “Music has been/is very good 2 us. God Gifted in every possible way. We just stay “humble. I still love 2 write & record music… its part of my DNA. But, im on a different road.”

Baker has been in the music business for 30-plus years. Her first album, 1983’s The Songstress, was moderately successful but it was her 1986 album Rapture that made her into a R&B superstar. The album earned her two Grammy Awards in 1987, including Best R&B Song for “Sweet Love.” Baker’s last album was a holiday project called Christmas Fantasy in 2005.

However, it appears that Baker has been recording new material since then. According to a tweet from radio personality Tom Joyner, the veteran singer has one more album in the chamber. “Come on Anita release that new music you let me hear. It was good!” he tweeted to her.
